Types of Sedation Dentistry

Dr. Barnard provides sedation dentistry services in the Rochester area. Sedation dentistry is a safe and effective way to reduce anxiety and fear associated with dental procedures. It can help patients relax during treatment and may even reduce pain levels. Dr. Barnard offers three main types of sedation dentistry: inhalation sedation, oral sedation, and IV sedation.

Inhalation sedation is a type of sedation where the patient inhales a combination of nitrous oxide and oxygen. This type of sedation wears off quickly after the procedure, allowing the patient to drive home and resume normal activities.

Oral sedation involves taking a pill prior to the procedure. This type of sedation allows the patient to remain awake, but deeply relaxed. Oral sedation is also quick-acting and allows the patient to drive home shortly after the procedure.

IV sedation is the strongest type of sedation available. It is administered directly into the patient’s bloodstream and allows the patient to remain deeply relaxed throughout the procedure. IV sedation requires that the patient be monitored by a trained professional throughout the procedure.

Dr. Barnard is highly experienced in providing sedation dentistry services. If you are looking for a safe and effective way to reduce anxiety and fear during dental procedures, please contact Dr. Barnard to learn more about the different types of sedation dentistry available.
